My teacher said that sports don't have a legit use and don't really do anything valuable for the world.
I'm not a sports person at all but I think that is so wrong.
What music is to me sports is to some people. Would you say music doesn't benefit the world? Sports inspires people and builds values and character, such as sportsmanship, and perseverance. Ever heard the quote, "Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game!" by Babe Ruth? Well, that makes me want to go solve world hunger.
Not to mention the millions of people who have done things in sports that inspire people. I'm sure you can think of a story you've heard of of someone playing a sport and doing something incredible.
Even if they don't inspire someone, just making someone smile is fantastic. The happiness that some people feel on game day can be overwhelming. A smile is more valuable than anything on this superficial planet.
The part that pissed me off the most is that there were so many athletes in the room but only one of them spoke against his statement.
